Perennial cover crop works very nicely for planting in fertile soils and home garden beds. Excellent choice for putting vegetable beds to rest and for scattering in the shelterbelt. As a covercrop, fixes 200 pounds nitrogen per acre, yields up to 10 tons of organic matter per acre, and effectively sequesters subsurface minerals. Sowing rate: 1 lb per 1,000 sq ft. 100 grams per 200 sq ft. Packet contains 500 seeds.

Hi Vanessa, Thanks for pointing this out. Chickens do thrive on alfalfa, especially alfalfa sprouts, which are readily consumed. Alfalfa will sprout even indoors–it doesn’t need sun, and needs more sun as it matures. a part shade area is fine, richo

Hi Tim, this is a perennial OP that can be allowed to go to seed and will self-seed if conditions allow. It doesn’t throw new plants off of rootlets left in the ground after plowing. richo
