Sage, Grecian (Salvia fruticosa) potted plant, organic
$8.50
Family: Mint (Lamiaceae)
Hardy to Zones 8 to 11, otherwise grown in containers and brought indoors for the winter
(Greek Sage, Middle-Eastern Sage, Salvia triloba) Woody evergreen subshrub native to the Eastern Mediterranean rim, particularly prevalent in the Middle East. Flowers pale lavender to a height of 3 feet. Excellent in Mediterranean-style gardens or containerized culture. Drought and deer resistant. The leaves are employed much like garden sage (Salvia officinalis). In fact, this species makes up much of the dried sage spice sold internationally. The fragrance and taste are delightful. We have used the dried leaves as an ingredient in Thanksgiving stuffing with excellent results. Traditional uses (TWM): Antibacterial, antiinflammatory, carminative, antioxidant. In Greece, the dried leaves are made into a salubrious tea known as fascomiglia. Plant prefers full sun and medium moisture to dryish soils. Space plants 2 to 3 feet apart.
