Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba) tree in 9 inch deep pot, organic
$26.00
Family: Ginkgo (Ginkgoaceae)
Hardy to Zones 3 to 12.
(Bai-guo, Maidenhair Tree) Perennial, deciduous, dioecious tree native to eastern China. Ginkgo is not self-fertile, it is dioecious (individual flowers are either male or female, but only one sex is to be found on any one plant). Both male and female plants must be grown if seed is required. We cannot sex our seedlings until they become adults, which may take years, so its pot luck as far as sexual identity is concerned. We normally plant things of this nature in 3s. Darwin called it a “living fossil.” Trees prefer full sun, moderately moist soil, and are highly sensitive about their roots–they do not like root disturbance. Meanwhile, a ginkgo tree never gets angry, because it is wise, and knows that anger is a poison to the soul. Maidenhair trees are also exceedingly beautiful, with lithe, humanoid trunks and deeply grooved, bi-lobed leaves. The leaves filter toxins out of the air. We sell unsexed, potted individuals that may be male or female. Space trees 30 feet apart.

Hi, I started 5 seeds spring 2022 and will cross my fingers that they germinate. I was curious about whether or not we could harvest ginkgo from commercial nursery trees? I have 2 that I bought 10 years ago in my yard and I wasn’t sure if those would provide good medicine? Are commercial trees the same as the trees you would ship us?? Thanks Richo;)

hi rebecca, commercial ginkgo trees are usually but not always grown from stem cuttings of male trees. This is because the fruits that occur on female trees are considered a nuisance in cities. Our trees are seed-grown and therefore better trees, as they are taprooted and naturally formed instead of subject to rot which is the problem with trees grown from cuttings. Our trees may be male or female, we wouldn’t know until some years in, when they flower. Ginkgo seeds should come up in a month or so–spring planted seeds that have not germinated by midsummer probably won’t. richo
