Linden, Littleleaf (Tilia cordata), packet of 20 seeds, organic
$4.95
Family: Tilia (Tiliaceae)
Hardy to Zones 2 to 8
Deciduous tree to 70 feet tall, with a handsome, dense, round crown. Multi-purpose tree with substantial wildlife and pollinator value, producing copious nectar that is relished by bees. Tilia flower bracts make a delicious tea, often called “lime flower tea,” which has a sweet taste and a honeyed fragrance. Traditional usage (TWM): Hypertension. The plant prefers part shade to full sun and good, moist, loamy soil that is neutral in pH. Plant densely, 10 per gallon pot, 1/2 to 1 inch deep, tamp well and mulch with decomposed leaves, peat moss or coir. Seed has a pericarp that impedes germination–nick with a sharp blade before planting. Sow seeds in fall, winter or very early spring for germ in spring. After the seedlings are sufficiently hardened off, transplant to individual gallon-size pots and grow on for at least a year before transplanting to landscape.
