Sage, Jerusalem (Salvia hierosolymitana), packet of 30 seeds, Organic
$3.95
Family: Mint (Lamiaceae)
Hardy to Zones 7 to 12
(Jerusalem Sage, Royal Sage, Sacred Sage) Please note that this is not the common yellow-flowered non-salvia, Latin name Phlomis fruticosa, which also goes by the common name “Jerusalem Sage.”) Our Salvia hierosolymitana is a mounding perennial to 2 feet, native to Eastern Mediterranean basin. Flowers wine-red, calyxes, bracts and stem also tinged in red. The plant is inodorous although well-endowed with glandular hairs. A plant for the serious sage aficionado, it is very rare to find in cultivation, and it is rare to find seed availability.

This was fun to germinate, and I was pleasantly surprised at how many plants I was able to get out of the seed. Next year, I’ll know better to space them out more. I had the lovely pink flowers, and this rich purple in the gnome pot. This was unexpected and a real treat. Maybe the nasturtium effected the color or the soils I mixed for the pots?
