(American Mandrake) Colony forming plant with umbrella-like, palmate leaves and a large, waxy, white flower of delightful fragrance. The plant is striking on the herbalscape. Source of antitumor podophyllotoxin which is used for treating genital warts and has a long history of use as an antimitotic. Native to the central and eastern US. Plant prefers moist ground, full sun to full shade. Three plants triangulated about 4 feet apart will make a nice patch within 2 or 3 years.

hi mary, thanks for writing! we’ll be listing the dormant roots of Mayapple in September, which is just the right time to plant them. We probably won’t list mayapple potted plants because the stems are so fragile, and the umbrella-like leaf so large, that they tend to break in transit. richo
