$3.95$26.10

Family:  Carrot (Apiaceae)

Annual.  30 days to cilantro (leaf), 90 days to coriander (seed)

(Coriander, Thai Parsley) Harvest the shining, smooth leaves before the plant flowers for use as the culinary spice Cilantro in cooking and in salsa. Traditional usage (TWM): Chelation of heavy minerals.  Harvest the seeds and use them as Coriander, a curry ingredient and spice.  Plant prefers full sun and regular garden soil. Seeds occur two to the sphere–in other words there are 2 seeds fused together.  We count each sphere as 1 in order to give a full packet count, but we also recommend rubbing the seed on a hard surface or between 2 blocks of wood to break it apart before planting.  This stimulates it, and gives a higher and faster germination.   Sow
(broken-up) seeds directly in the garden bed in spring, as soon as the ground can be worked.  Plant in furrows 2 to 3 feet apart, barely cover seeds, tamp well, make sure the planting stays moist, and allow to come up thickly.  Germination can be a bit cranky, especially in over-warm soils. Sow starting in the early spring, in successions 3 weeks apart, in order to assure ongoing availability of the fresh herb.  Harvest for leaf prior to flowering.
