Wallflower, English, Mixed Singles (Cheiranthus cheiri) packet of 100 seeds
Family: Mustard (Brassicaceae)
Hardy to Zones 6 to 9
(Cheiranthus cheiri Syn. Erysimum cheiri, English Wallflower, Clove Gillyflower) Herbaceous perennial often grown as a biennial, native to Europe and grown in gardens worldwide. “Mixed singles” produces spring flowers in abundance, brightly colored orange, yellow and red, emitting heady scents, to 18 inches tall. Plant prefers sun to part shade and fast-draining soil of garden bed, pathside, wall, or rockery. This tough flower thrives with little maintenance. Sow seed in spring or fall. Barely cover, tamp securely and keep evenly moist until germination, which takes a week or two. Direct seed in the garden bed or sow in pots and transplant. Plants will overwinter and flower in the early spring and ongoing. Those of you familiar with the habits of other overwintering brassicaceae (like the perhaps more common plant moonwort, Lunaria biennis) will know how early and how brightly these are likely to flower.
