Valerian, Official Root (Valeriana officinalis), organic
Family: Valerian (Valerianaceae)
Hardy to Zones 4 to 8.
Herbaceous perennial native to Europe and temperate Asia. Traditional usage (TWM): sedative. Valerian prefers full sun to part shade and moist but well-drained soils. It will grow all right in dense, clay soils that are composted with organic compost, but really thrives in very fast draining soils such as sandy loam or potting soil made with plenty of pumice. We cut back the aerials and bag the root before shipment. On receipt, remove the root from the bag and plant in a gallon pot with the crown at the surface of the soil, or plant in a mellow bed in the garden. Plant 1 to 2 feet apart.
Bare root, Certified Organically Grown
