Family:  Nightshade (Solanaceae)

Annual:  91 days to fruits

(Indigo Rose Tomato) New open pollinated and non-gmo tomato is nearly round, hard until fully ripe, and is high in the antioxidant known as anthocyanin. Astoundingly, the fruits are colored a very dark blue-black (the “indigo” part of their name).  Upon ripening, the globular tomatoes turn soft and the green bottom turns orange-red (the “rose” part of their name).   Rich clusters, fruits large and widely spaced in the spray,  bedeck a stout vine.  We like these in mixed salds, where the firm texture and fruity, almost zingy taste do much to enliven lettuce. Once we made salad and people thought we’d put giant ripe olives in there.  Others liken the fruits to plums. The fruits are very round and fat. Tips:  We found it best to squeeze the fruit and verify that it had softened before harvesting.

    Beautiful, unusual, delicious, prolific

Beautiful tomatoes – dark purple on top, orange-red on the bottom. Good flavor – not “wow” like some heirlooms, but delicious. Great in salads, tacos, etc. Strong seed germination, and each plant produces many tomatoes. Staking helps or they grow along the ground.
