Speedwell, Common (Veronica officinalis), packet of 50 seeds

$2.95

Speedwell, Common (Veronica officinalis)
Family:  Scrophulariaceae
Perennial creeper native to the Old World.  A good choice as a ground cover in herbal gardens, the speedwell loves moisture, and will grow in almost any soil, in shade to full sun.  The plant makes a good groundcover under trees, and drapes admirably over rocks.  The pale blue flowers give way to seedpods that are inverted hearts.  The seed is flattened and orange, like tiny gold dubloons.  Medicinally, the plant has an ancient history of usage, considered to contain great virtue as an alterative and urinary and upper respiratory tonic.  Although the plant has largely fallen out of use, herbies are beginning to understand it and employ it once again.  Our knowledge expands with our plant base.  Sow in spring in pots or directly in the garden.  Barely cover seed and keep evenly moist until germination, which occuirs in 1 to 3 weeks.   When the seedlings attain the second set of true leaves, thin or transplant to 6 inches to one foot apart .  The plants will spread to form a cushy mat.   50 seeds/pkt, Open Pollinated, Untreated, NO GMO’s
