KAREN Frank –
will slippery elm thrive in zone 8~9? what isits growth rate?

Richo Cech –
Hi KAren,
Generally when trees are listed up to a certain zone they suffer when hotter. However our zone has gone up to an 8 and I have large ones on the property here and they don’t suffer. So it might be good in warmer climes. They grow anywhere from 6 inches to a coupole of feet per year. There’s a whole chapter on this tree in “Growing At-Risk” Richo

Hi! Its currently April of 2020 and we’re looking at a slippery elm SEED harvest within the next few days. So you can buy the seed packet and plant your own. I’ll be planting plenty, too, and will have trees again, great nature willing, in the spring of 2021.

New seeds in May. I do think we have some potted ones in the nursery but not a grove’s worth. r
