  1. Question

Hi Richo, I was wondering which one of your books do you recommend I read for growing slippery elm? I have two baby trees that were started from seed last year and are ready to be planted. I appreciate your knowledge and I hope all is well. Thanks, Amy

      Hi Amy,
Thanks for contacting and all is well. There’s a slippery elm chapter in “Growing At-Risk” and a monograph in “Growing Plant Medicine Vol 2”. Richo

Hi Richo! I hope you are well, I was wondering what your opinion on growing Slippery Elm from a start vs seed was? I seem to have a hard time growing trees/large shrubs from seeds, do you have any advise?
    All the best,
    Elyanah

      Hi Elysian,
Thanks for writing and also thanks for propagating trees, it is so very important. Page 194 of “Growing Plant Medicine” gives a great monograph on this plant that will answer many questions. There’s also a chapter on slippery elm in “Growing At Risk.” Anyhow, this one is best to grow from seeds. Last year’s seed germinated very well this spring, and it is almost time for the new seed crop to be ready. The cycles go ’round and ’round. I will be enabling tree sales next spring. Really looking forward to it, Richo

  3. Question

    Terry Babb

Can one of these trees – slippery elm survive in zone 8 if given shade? Shade the western sun perhaps?

Hi Terry, Right, just the way you’re saying, these zone designations are malleable, especially on the top end. I have slippery elm in a zone 8. The ones in the sun do suffer and the ones in the shade do much better. richo

hi Melinda, I’m sorry that happened. In answer to your question we do have more of these going and will list them when sufficiently sized. Meanwhile I do recommend the slippery elm seed, which is in stock from the recent harvest. Richo
