She chuang zi (Cnidium monnieri), packet of 100 seeds, organic

$2.95

Family:  Carrot (Apiaceae)
(Snow Parsley, She chuang zi) Annual native to China.  The seed is sown in the spring with quick and easy germination.   The plant goes quickly to flower and then seed. The flowers attract myriads of pollinators.  Peggy Schafer calls this plant “an entomologist's dream come true.”  According to TCM, the herb strongly warms the kidney yang, dries dampness, kills parasites and stops itching.  It is typically made into a wash or ointment for external application, especially in the genital area, for men or women, to treat itchy skin.  Also used in treating trichomonas.   Internally, the tea, decoction or tincture is used to treat impotency, as the herb increases blood flow to the genital organs in both men and women.  Stimulates the sex hormones.  Source of the molecule known as osthole, which fights osteoporosis (loss of bone density).  Plant prefers moist soils in sun or part shade.  Sow in spring by sprinkling seed on surface and barely covering, then tamping well.  Keep evenly moist until germination.  Taprooted plant will grow in a dense population so within reason thinning is not a necessity.  Harvest seed when fully formed and ready to fall from plant.
