Sage, Cleveland (Salvia clevelandii) packet of 30 seeds, organic

$2.95

Family:  Mint (Lamiaceae)

Hardy to Zones 9 to 12

(Blue Whorled Sage)  In our opinion among the top 3 of all California native sages, rated in terms of flower display, fragrance, and adaptability to cultivation outside its native zone.  Ascending balls of dark blue flowers in whorls on stems densely bedecked with small leaves, fruitily fragrant. Plant prefers full sun and mesic to dry, fast-draining soils.  Scarify seed lightly on fine sandpaper, then sow in fast-draining soil, barely cover, tamp securely, and keep evenly moist and warm until germination.  Allow seedlings to grow on until they are large enough to transplant out to the landscape.  Can be kept trimmed back to a fairly compact size, and can be kept in pots, brought in for the winter. Typical mature plants grown in outdoor conditions are 2 to 3 feet tall, best planted 2 to 3 feet apart.
