Sage, Blue (Salvia azurea), packet of 30 seeds, organic

$3.95

Family:  Mint (Lamiaceae)
Hardy to zones 5 to 9
Herbaceous perennial flowering sky blue to 3 to 4 feet tall.  Native to an extensive range in the eastern, central and southern prairie states  from North Carolina south to Florida, west to New Mexico and from there north to Nebraska Easy and hardy, this is a good plant to grow among grasses, which are natural companions to it, and provide support. The plant tends to lodge (fall over) unless kept trimmed back.  Beautiful light blue flowers with a ruffled, plate-like lip on the corolla. These are awesome in the fall. The seed of this species is a traditional food of the native people, nutritive and sustaining. Sow in flats or directly in garden.  Sow in fall for germination in the spring, or give 4 to 8 weeks of cold, moist refrigeration before sowing in a warm place.  Barely cover the cold stratified seed, tamp well and keep warm and evenly moist until germination, which begins in 7 days. Thin or transplant to 1 foot apart.
