(Tree Celandine, Macleaya cordata) Herbaceous perennial native to China. Deeply lobed leaves give rise to showy plumes of white flowers to 6 feet tall. Source of sanguinarine. Plant prefers sun to part shade, rich, moist soil. Sow seeds in fall for germination in the spring, or give 30 days warm treatment, followed by 30 days cold/moist refrigeration, then sow warm. Space 3 to 5 feet apart.
