Family: Legume (Fabaceae)
Hardy to Zones 4 to 7
(Scholar Tree, Huai-hua-mi, Huai-hua, Huai-mi) Deciduous tree to 60 feet tall, native to the dry plains of Western China. The weeping form and lustrous, pinnate leaves that cast only a light shade, and the long clusters of fragrant, creamy blossoms make this a preferred tree for planting around shrines, in parks and on city streets. Traditional usage (TCM): regulate the blood, stop bleeding, hemorrhoids. The flowers are also extracted to yield a yellow dye. This ancient tree is tolerant of diverse soils and climates, but the roots do require good drainage. Scarify seeds, either by rubbing through the seedcoat with sandpaper or by soaking overnight in hot water, then sow in arm soil. Work up in pots and transplant out to at least 30 feet between trees.
20 seeds per packet, Open Pollinated, Untreated, NO GMO’s

Subsequent note on germination of this seed. I scarified the seeds individually and dropped in very hot water, soaked overnight, and got 100% germ in 10 days at soil temperature of 65 degrees F. Very vigorous seedlings and in all, worth it.

Just a side note. I learned from an old Mississippi farmer that if you want okra seeds to germinate overnight, pour boiling water over seeds and the next day, they were sprouted. Cool breeze 🌬
