Oregano, Greek (Origanum heracleoticum) potted plant, organic

$8.50$57.00

Family: Mint (Lamiacea)

Hardy to Zones 4 to 8

(Origanum vulgare hirtum) Herbaceous perennial native to southern Europe, the east Aegean islands, Cyprus, Crete, Greece and Turkey.  Flowers white to a height of 2 feet. Spicy herb useful in flavoring pizza, sausages, eggs and other protein dishes.  Traditional usage (TWM) antioxidant, carminative, disinfectant, anti-fungal. We do specialize in this particular cultivar, and we always grow sturdy plants from our own seed.  We like them best among all the origanum and majorana. Plant prefers full sun to part shade and a fast-draining soil.  Space plants 1 to 2 feet apart.

    Hi 🙂

How many of these oregano plants can I put in a large planter? I’ve found information that says to space them up to 10 inches apart in the ground, and if that’s true, then 3 plants in a large planter would be too crowded, yes?

Not really too crowded, they will simply shoulder out and fill the space. Oregano has 2 growing phases–one where the plant creeps and makes a gentle mound, 2 where it goes up to flower and bract (the main/best part used as a spice). So if 3 plants are put in a large planter, they should first cover the surface of the planter, perhaps droop over the edges a bit, then go up to flower. They will be happy. r

      Hi George,
If you have plenty of space, 2 feet apart. If you are tight on space, 1 foot apart.

Hi Richo. Is this variety good for cleaning? A study came out stating Oregano Oil is the best cleaner and helps to heal.
