Hi RockCreek, Thanks for writing. Mullein grows well almost anywhere. They grow fine in pots, although they tend to get bigger than the pot, especially when they get their roots out the drainage holes and find some real dirt. Or gravel–mullein is not at all picky about that! Richo

WOW ! These Mulleins are beautiful ! Packaged very well and even included a big fat Earthworm. So healthy ! I will be buying more, and I live in zone 6. Should I mulch them before first frost ? I assume they need stratification, Am I right ?

Hi Richo Got to know Mullein in 2021. Love it. Made ear oil, tinctured it w100 proof vodka and dried leaves for tea and smoke mix. Very useful plant. I planted seed in milk jugs in Oct in Ohio and lefty them outside all winter. In April I transplanted them in the flower garden and got the second year stalks with the lovely yellow flowers. Guess I was just expecting the first year rosette. Seems like a quick method for this biannual. Going to get to know mugwort 2022. Peace

it makes sense to me that the mullein grew like that. spring-sown, it shouldn’t flower until the next year, but if overwintered as a rosette, it should do what it did and flower in the second year. r

Are the potted plants big/strong enough to go into ground right the way without growing in gallon pots first? Thanks!

The mullein is often made into a tincture and taken for treating upper respiratory woes.

hi robin, thanks for writing. sorry for the late reply, we got sidetracked pressing grapes and apples. anyhow i think you should be able to transplant the mullein outdoors still in a 7 b. pretty warm. one thing, its taprooted, so make sure to shake out the roots thoroughly and expose the taproont and plant it all the way in straight down. that will help immensely. richo
