Mint, Mountain (Pycnanthemum virginianum), packet of 100 seeds

$3.95

Family: Mint (Lamiaceae)

Hardy to Zones: 4 to 8

(Virginia mountain mint)  Herbaceous perennial native to Eastern Canada south through the American midwest and eastern states.   Flowers in profuse clusters on the branchy plant, white with purple marcations to a height of 2 feet.  This tough, bushy plant is an excellent choice for the herb garden, being compact, long-lived, delightfully aromatic and a great butterfly attractor. Voted one of the best tea plants.  Source of menthone.  Prefers sun to part shade and moist to boggy soils.  As long as it is frequently watered, the plant does well in standard garden culture spaced 2 feet apart. Sow in fall or very early spring—requires cold conditioning to sprout. Sow seeds on surface and press in firmly.  Our tests showed germination after 20 days in cool soils.  Space plants 1 to 2 feet apart.

100 seeds/pkt., Open Pollinated, Untreated, NO GMO’s

Will this reseed, spread or otherwise naturalize if left on its own in an open area?

Hi Claire, it is a plant native to the US and will naturalize given the right conditions. These are not perennial in my gardens, though. Richo
