Mandrake, Autumn (Mandragora autumnalis), packet of 5 fresh (undried) seeds, organic

$7.95

Family: Nightshade (Solanaceae )

Hardy to Zones 6 to 10.

Herbaceous perennial, native to Southern Europe.  One of the most choice of all true Mandrake species.  Flowers purple to 12 inches tall, giving way to fruits of yellow and orange.  Traditional usage (TWM): fertility, aphrodisiac, a magical totem, relieve pain, promote sleep.  Source of tropane alkaloids–do not ingest.   Plant prefers alkaline pH—deep, sandy soils.  Autumnalis does fine in the dry sun to moist shade, tends to flower in the autumn as opposed to the winter-flowering types.  Flowers are amazing.  Cultivation:  Fresh seeds from the new harvest are kept moist in coir and refrigerated.  Please plant as soon as possible after receipt.  Plant in fast-draining medium and kept warm and in the light.  Barely cover seed with sand, tamp and keep evenly moist until germination.  Rapid germination when newly harvested seeds are kept moist and planted.  Once the seedlings attain the second set of true leaves, individuate to pots and grow on that way for at least 2 years before transplanting outdoors.  Space plants 2 feet apart.

5 fresh seeds packed in moist coir, organic (sorry, available in the USA only, no international sales)
