(1 customer review)

$2.95

(Winter Red Kale)   Biennial.  This Ruso-Siberian red kale is very cold hardy and uniform.  It is more tender than most kales, and especially well suited for winter gardening, cloche and greenhouse culture.  The leaves turn redder as the weather gets colder!

200 seeds/pkt, certified organically grown

Recipe for winter marinated kale:

2 large fistfulls winter red kale

1 Tablespoon Olive oil

Juice from 1 lemon

1/2 teaspoon summer savory herb, dried

1 small clove garlic, minced (optional)

Salt to taste

Directions:  Wash the Kale and slice up to a fine consistency.  Place Kale in a bowl, drizzle other ingredients over it, toss to incorporate ingredients, knead gently to break down the leaves a bit.  Cover and allow to sit and mellow for some time before serving. Feeds 4.

Planted it last fall- we had cuttings all winter- absolutely delicious sweet, crisp & still are using it going into the spring
We’re in zone 9 & had a fairly light winter but would highly recommend!

Are there instructions say for the kale or trying to find which greens grow easiest (new gardener) for Southern California? Easy to grow, quick growing

      Hello Lylah,
Like a lot of other growers, I suggest you purchase the “salad greens” and “cooking greens” from us, by far the best buy, seed-for-seed, that we offer. Prepare a bed maybe 3 foot by 10 foot and make a good seed bed out of it, and sprinkle on the seeds, and press them in, keep moist, and salads and life-giving greens will be available in a few weeks. All the instructions are on the packet, but most growers have this embedded in their DNA.

Can I seed it now, then plant a lot of them, and use them in the summer and keep some in the ground along the winter (can one that are seeded now will be good all through the summer and then winter, or should I sow the winter ones in the fall?)
