Gromwell (Lithospermum officinale), packet of 20 seeds, organic

$3.95

Family:  Borage (Boraginacea)

Hardy to Zones 5 to 9

(Stoneseed, Pearl Stoneseed, Common Gromwell, Bohemian Tea, Croatian Tea) Herbaceous perennial native to Europe.  Multistemmed bush with pointed leaves sets myriads of glistening, moonlike orbs that are the seeds.  An old-world favorite for the wild garden.  A vigorous self-seeder, the plant is well-liked in country gardens and is actually fairly unusual in gardens in the US. Traditional usage:  Urinary gravel.  Contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids.  The presence of red pigment in the roots denotes content of alkannin, making this a potential dyeplant.   Plant prefers sun to part shade and regular garden soil.  Strongly taprooted, it does not mind a clay soil. Sow seeds in fall or early spring for emergence in the spring.  The plant does not do well in pots, and is best sown in place, or sown in pots and transplanted when sufficiently sized to withstand the rigors of the open garden.

20 seeds per packet, Certified Organically Grown
