Geranium, Scented “Attar of Roses” (Pelargonium capitatum) potted plant, organic

(4 customer reviews)

$11.00

Family:  Geranium (Geraniaceae)

Hardy to zone 10 to 12, often  grown as a summer annual or a potted plant brought in for the winter. Protect from frost.

(Rose scented geranium, rose otto, rose attar, rose of attar)   This plant exudes sensual and calming fragrance.  I have read many descriptions of the aromatherapeutic properties of this type of scented geranium, and they differ according to source, so provide here my own experience:  Attar of Roses opens the heart chakra and calms the spirit.  A highly desired plant which in our opinion rests at the pinnacle of all scented geranium varieties.  Easily grown in potted culture, a good plant blooms all summer long.  Sun to part shade.  Fertilize with your good compost and since it’s a heavy magnesium feeder, pour in a little epsom salt soak water from time to time.  This will green it up.  Space plants 2 feet apart.

Potted plant certified organically grown

    Beautiful Geranium

I just received mine in the mail and it’s perfect. I’m just curious, if I’m growing indoors in the winter should I still use epsom salt sometimes in the water or wait until spring to do that when I move it outdoors?

hi yasmine. they are good indoor growers if they have enough light, and i do think you can give dilute epsom salt water even when potted. but not too much or too often. richo

I have Rose Scented Geranium in my garden as a container plant. I water my plants every morning and it’s one of my rituals to gently feel the leaves and let the wonderful aroma sink into the senses as I attend to the plants. It’s a great addition to a scented garden.

Yes, the next planting looks excellent and will be available to ship around May 19th. Lets wait another week or so before enabling purchase, it is just a wee tad bit early yet.

Hi. I have these attar geraniums but they didn’t flower yet. Should the leaves have any scent at all? I cannot smell anything from the leaves. Appreciate your help.

Hello Lia, The leaves are deeply rose-scented. the flowers are very nice, but it is the leaves, mainly, that smell so nicely. Richo

Hi Carolina, Usually this is used in small quantities mixed with other ingredients, as a flavoring agent, not a primary. You can put a few dried petals or leaves in with your tulsi tea, for instance. richo

I have one of these scented geraniums that has kept growing, taking cuttings from, rooting, and regrowing for 4-5 years now. There doesn’t seem to be anything to stop it… it’s wonderful! My question is: what to do with the leaves? Can I make tea with them, add them to blends, what would they blend well with? Does this plant have nutritional benefits?

hi barb, these are indeed long-lived, especially if you give them a haircut from time to time. your timing is serendipitous since only yesterday i watched a sweet woman taking cuttings of attar of roses that were bound for steam distillation although she was only shooting for a hydrosol, with enough material and a good still you could make essential oil of geranium out of it and that would be excelsior. however even just the dried, ground up leaves can be added to your tea mix for a relaxing and aromatic influence–black tea, lemongrass tea, tulsi. they have minor nutritional value, more on the emotional/spiritual plane. r
