(Indian Frankincense, Olibanum, Kundur, Salai Guggul) Deciduous tree to 30 feet, native to the Punjab in India and Pakistan. Source of burnable oleo-gum-resin known as frankincense, also traditionally used (Ayurveda): antiinflammatory and pain relieving agent for treatment of arthritis, bronchial asthma and Crohn’s disease. Tree prefers full sun and rich but dryish soils. Soak seeds in warm water overnight, then plant in warm, fast-draining medium, watering once daily only. Germination is in 1 to 2 weeks.
