Gutta-Percha (Eucommia ulmoides), packet of 10 seeds

$4.95

Family:  Rubber  (Eucommiaceae)

Hardy to zones 4 to 8

(Du-zhong, Eucommia bark, Hardy Rubber Tree) Deciduous broadleaf native to China, to 60 feet tall and about 40 feet spread of branches.   Traditional use of the dried bark (TCM): tonifies the yang, kidney and liver deficiency, sore back, fatigue, frequent urination.  The tree prefers sun and is not particular about soil type, although it does not tolerate wet feet.  It is drought tolerant.  The tree has a moderate rate of growth.  Plant seeds in fall or early spring.  Requires about 90 days of cold/moist conditions prior to planting on surface of warm medium.  Barely cover, tamp well.  I have found the germination to be gratifyingly vigorous.  For landscape use, space trees at least 30 feet apart.  For production of herbal medicine, I have planted them as closely as 3 feet apart with good results.  They would eventually need to be thinned.

Packet of 10 seeds, open-pollinated, untreated, NO GMO’s
