I ordered one plant and it came well packaged. It’s growing very big, very quickly and looks healthy!

    Packing Marvel!

I am still in awe of the care given to Wrapping and packing the herb plants. You know how you tuck a child in at night so they feel safe and protected? That is what I thought about when I opened the box! 🙂 such labor intensive care. Then the plants themselves! Healthy and strong. I can’t wait to send pictures as they develop. Peruse the packing pictures until then and order with confidence! Great work SMS!

I am growing in zone 9, I see from other sources it’s Hardy through zone 9, any thoughts? I’m also wondering if there’s anything I need to do to overwinter it come fall? If I cut it back will it come back the next year just fine?

hi tyler, sounds like you’re growing elecampane successfully. Cutting it back isn’t going to change its herbaceous perennial habit although it might limit flowering. the plant needs no particular care to overwinter, although keeping it well weeded, mulched and labeled will help it get larger and relocate it the following year. ours is just going into full flower, not thinking about overwintering right now. r

Is it propagated by division when you harvest the roots?

hi nancy, seedgrown individuals like these are a little better than plants grown from root cuttings, but yes, as you expected, one can make crown cuttings at harvest and work them up in gallon pots and get new plants out of it. richo

    Update 3 years out

Healthy viable plants, this year once the flowers died back I pruned back to give the other plants some successn. They were too pretty to compost so put a bundle of the tops in the greenhouse. Three days later they had imploded. Something caught my eye – kinda luminescent. What a wonder it was seeing the seeds everywhere, just like a dandelion. Each seed has it’s own propeller. Love it!
