Eclipta (Eclipta alba) seeds, organic

$4.95$44.10

Family:  Aster (Asteraceae)

Tropical perennial, temperate annual, 60 days to harvest

(Bhringaraj, Eclipta prostrata, Mo-han-lian) A creeping and moisture-loving herb with white flowers giving way to a button-like display of fat green seeds that turn black when fully mature.  Good subject for around the hose bib or used as a low-lying bedding plant.  Traditional use (Ayurveda): hepatic tonic, hair tonic. The herb tends to blacken without cellular deterioration, and the dried herb (pictured) takes on a very dark hue.  Sow seed just below soil surface, tamp in well and keep warm and in the light.  Regarding germination times for Eclipta alba, the common expectation is 12 to 24 days in spring conditions.  However I have been keeping careful track of this, due to much feedback regarding nongermination of Eclipta alba seeds, and in 2020/21 I made a planting that gave these results:  Planted 11/17/20 in greenhouse conditions.  Less than 1% germination in 2 weeks.  Kept the plant in the greenhouse, nearly barren, for the entire winter and on 3/2/2021 all the rest of the seeds came up.  That’s a 105 day induction period.  Whether this is an expectable germination period for the seeds of Eclipta alba and should represent a reasonable cultivation scenario for it, or whether this is merely the result of Kokopelli’s springtime fluting, is still not fully understood.   However, this is the greatest germination I’ve ever seen on the species.   Space plants 1 foot apart.  Grows to about a foot tall.

also, I was under the impression these were perennial, do they need to be kept in a greenhouse thru the winter to come back next year? Thank you!

hi dawn, thanks for your thoughtful reviews. Eclipta alba is perennial until frosted. for all practical purposes, given its easy and fast growth, it is treated as an annual by temperate gardeners. overwintering in the greenhouse is rarely satisfactory. richo

I ordered these last season and got a good run but forgot to bring it inside during frost. These seeds are good quality and I got a great germination rate with the two packets I ordered last season. This store was the only place I could find these seeds and I’m so happy I did. Thanks for providing good quality seeds and a wide range to choose from.

Hi Jhovanna, Wow, I’m glad they worked for you. I personally had a surprise when I planted them in the fall, only a few came up, and then the rest of them came up not that long ago–a couple of weeks back–it took about 100 days! It looks like we’ll be having these again from fresh crop–they act like an annual. Thanks again for contacting. Richo

I am so happy to see the seeds sprouted. And looking forward to see them grow. I would definitely recommend to everyone. I have no second thought buying from this seller when compared to other online stores. The price is very reasonable. I will definitely buy more in future.

Hi, I ordered these seeds along with many others last year. learned a lot, & back for more. they grow wonderfully in central California even with our water limitations( if you recycle water like me anyhow) This is by far my most valued seed & plant authority & last year I ordered from many others, but the seeds from here all germinated. the others not so much. I can tell from years of experience & just plain vibes that this is the most honorable plant source around. love the new website too:)

How long did it to take to germinate? Should we keep the pot in sun during germination? Or in a cool area? Please advice.

Hi Bekki, I know what you mean, I really had to coax these out of the ground this year and what I observed was that there was a very small germination response after a couple of weeks and then the rest of the seeds came up months later. We have a huge row of these now and look forward to offering newly harvested seeds on them again this year. We keep our greenhouses at a minimum of 55 degrees F.Richo

The seeds germinated in just 8 days. This is by far the best website to get eclipta alba seeds. Do you have eclipta prostrata seeds (the yellow variety)?
