Hardy to Zones 9 to 12, otherwise readily grown as a potted plant.  Sizes itself to the pot.  Protect from frost.

Woody perennial shrub native to tropical and subtropical America.  Flowers purplish-blue to 8 feet tall.  Big butterfly attractor.  Traditional uses: Oneirogen (Dream inducing), also wounds, burns and skin infections.   Aerial parts are made into tea, smoked, or left under the pillow. Low-dose botanical.   Considered an adjunct for dream therapy, lucid dreaming and shamanistic practices. Source of unique sesquiterpenes and flavones.  Plant does fine with standard potting soils in a 1-gallon or larger pot.  Give a warm position in the shade to part sun.  Water regularly.  When planted to the landscape, space plants 5 feet apart.  When grown closely to other plants, will send its stems up and through them, vine-like, and can reach a considerable distance when growing this way.  It is a reasonable companion and other plants do not mind it.
