Dawn Redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) potted tree, gallon size, organic

$41.00

Family:  Cyprus (Cupressaceae)

Hardy to Zones 4 to 8

Deciduous coniferous tree native to Hubei province in China, capable of reaching a height of 165 feet. A living fossil descended from trees that lived in association with the dinosaurs, resurrected only recently from near extinction.  The trees are related to our giant redwoods and achieve a handsome, pyramidal shape.  Excellent choice for roomy landscapes, parks and drives.   Tree prefers moist, well-drained soil and sun to part shade.  Space trees 60 feet apart.

Please note:  These are barren in the winter and bear lovely soft fronds in spring through fall.

Potted tree, certified organically grown, gallon size

Do you know what the reason is for the general rule among redwoods that you never trim them?

Actually you can prune them if you want, but the natural triangular shape of a free-growing dawn redwood cannot be improved upon with shears. Sometimes people cut off the lower branches if they are in the way. Bonsai’d dawn redwoods are severely pruned back.
