Dang-shen, Sichuan (Codonopsis tangshen), packet of 50 seeds
$3.95
Family: Bellflower (Campanulaceae)
Hardy to Zones 5 to 9
(Chuan Dang Shen, Codonopsis pilosula ssp. tangshen, Poor Man’s Ginseng) Herbaceous perennial vine native to Hubei, Hunana, Shaanxi, Guizhou and Sichuan in China. Similar to Codonopsis pilosula, tangshen has a darker flower, yellow -green with purple markations. The plant consistently makes its flowers and seeds earlier than does pilosula. Traditional usage (TCM): builds chi and tonifys the blood. A soft-leaved, gentle, climbing plant with colorful bell-shaped blossoms. The roots are crunchy, very sweet, quite delicious. The herb in TCM is the pressed and dried, rolled root that is sugary and chewy. Highly recommended. Plant prefers full sun to part shade and something to climb on–preferably another plant but lacking that at least a string. Sow in spring. Watch out for gophers, these roots are tastier than carrots!
50 seeds/pkt., Open Pollinated, Untreated, NO GMO’s
