Curry Leaf Tree (Murraya koenigii) packet of 5 seeds, organic (USA ONLY)

(73 customer reviews)

$9.95

Family: Rue (Rutaceae)

Hardy to Zones 10 to 12

(Black Neem, Sweet Neem)  Tropical to sub-tropical evergreen tree to 18 feet, native to Southern India.  The pinnate leaves are handsome, as are the small, white, fragrant flowers that give way to clusters of black berries.  Traditional use (Ayurveda): as a spicily aromatic culinary herb, stir-fried as a base for curries. Also as a medicinal herb:  upset stomach, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, dysentery, hepatitis, anemia, diabetes, heart disease and high cholesterol. Plant prefers tropical sun to part shade, fast-draining soils and regular watering. Best in tropical humidity but possible as an indoor plant or patio plant brought in for the winter.   This short-lived seed is delivered as soon as it is ripe and should be planted immediately upon receipt.  To plant you squeeze the seeds out of the berry, allow to dry slightly overnight, then plant just sub-surface in warm, fast-draining mix, in the light.  Water only when surface becomes completely dry.  Germ. in 10 to 20 days. Space trees 10 to 15 feet apart.

5 seeds per packet, Certified Organically Grown

Note:  Curry leaf seeds have no testa (seed coat) and are very short-lived and liable to damage once removed from the fruit.  Therefore, we have learned to ship these seeds in this manner:  The ripe berries are picked from the tree and shipped fresh. Upon receipt, remove the berries from the packet and squeeze each berry.  The seed will slip out easily.  Allow the seed to dry overnight and plant the next day, buried just sub-surface in fast-draining potting soil in a gallon pot, a deep flat or other suitable container.  Tamp securely.  Do not use paper towels or peat pots. Keep the planting in a warm, bright place (a solar greenhouse is best) and the seed will germinate and grow.  Germination takes 10 to 20 days.  It is common to attain 100% germination on curry leaf tree seeds. No replacements or refunds on curry leaf tree seeds.  Available inside the USA only.

100% germination within 28 days. It took some time between when my card was charged to when the product shipped, but the quality product was worth the wait.

Many sites online claim that curry tree seeds are hard to germinate. Not my experience with your seeds – and they went through a real test before I could put them in a pot.

I live in Mexico. Despite the relatively compatible climate with their home in South Asia, it is impossible to find curry trees here so I bought 2 packets with the intention of growing two plants for myself and selling the rest to fans of Indian cooking.

You delivered to my mail forwarding service in Laredo. They courier mail and packages to Central Mexico three days a week and get a lot of things through customs that FedEx can’t be bothered to try.

That said, these two little packages of seeds got misplaced and sat in 100+ heat in Laredo for more than a week before making their way south. Of course, the berries were a mess in the package but I took your advice and didn’t worry. Followed your planting instructions. Put the overnight-dried seeds in a plastic-covered pot on a heat mat indoors at night and uncovered but occasionally water-spritzed them by day outside under the high desert sun just south of the Tropic of Cancer. A scant eight days later, one precocious sprout emerged. Four days later, it is 3″ tall and there are four more sprouts. I’m sure there are laggards lurking in their pots. There has been only one casualty so far, dug up by a mouse. I guess it wasn’t tasty as he didn’t do a repeat.

I wanted you to know that I could not be more pleased with the quality of your seeds. Thank you.

Zone 10. 80% Sprouted indoor in 2 weeks .. in August

    Jaclyn (verified owner)

I followed the instruction to squeeze out the seed and let them dry overnight right after I received the package. Then I put in potting soil in a plastic container ( which has a second life after being a salad bowl), put it under grow light inside, the indoor temperature has been around low to mid 70s… And voila..80% of seeds have sprouted and they grow FAST!!!

Even the baby leaves of the seedlings has the distinctive fragrance already.

beautiful and vibrant plant that brings a smile !!!!!!!

    Never give up on these!

The fresh seeds arrived in late July 2021. I planted them as instructed and put the pot in the greenhouse for the duration of the summer. For whatever reason, perhaps neglect on my part, they never germinated in 2021, but I kept them moist in my rather cool home over the winter. As a last resort, I put them on a 85F heat mat in Feb 2022 when germinating pepper seeds and surprise! 4 of the 5 erupted from the soil almost immediately! They are thriving in the greenhouse this summer, each in their own pot. Slow growing, but healthy and they have a VERY pungent smell (WOW!) when I brush against them. I’m hoping they will continue to do well as a potted plant and tolerate the rather cool, dry conditions inside during the winters (not hardy outdoors in Zone 3). I’m looking forward to using them in a curry when they are big enough to harvest a few leaves!

hello lulu, thanks for staying in touch, it is wonderful that your curry leaf tree seeds are sprouting. You can depot the seedling and try to pop it apart with one stem and half the root system for each plant. But i don’t really recommend it, the multi-stemmed individuals seem to do quite well when allowed to grow on without disturbance. richo

      Hello SD,
The plants are just now going into flower so we probably won’t have fruits until midsummer at the earliest. It’s odd, actually, I’ve had crops at different seasons depending on the year. Sometimes i don’t have seeds until winter solstice.

  12. Question

    Baiju (verified owner)

    Hi Richo,
Thanks for the curry leaf plant seeds. I’m so glad that they all germinated. Some of them took a while to do so but they all did. Now that the temps are somewhat better in AZ I started putting them out in the sunlight in the mornings. They used to be under a grow light for germination. I’m starting to see some browning on the leaves and I am not sure why this is happening. I did some research on the net and the closest I found to this is powdery mildew but this seems different as it does not have any of the white powdery substance on it. Any thoughts/guidance?

Hello Baiju, Thanks for staying in touch. The move from under grow lights to more natural conditions is often very stressful on plants. A gradual acclimatization is generally preferred. This is precisely why I removed my grow lights from indoors and put them in the greenhouse–that way the plants always have some natural light and weaning them off the grow lights is easier. Anyway your seedling is well-developed and should pull through. The brown spots are not powdery mildew and are more likely due to temperature fluctuation and sunscald. I believe a good approach would be to repot to new soil and put keep in filtered sunlight, not full-on sunlight. Many seedlings don’t withstand full sunlight because in nature they are growing under the shade of the mother tree. Richo

I personally ordered 2 packages over a month ago, and 3 more at a reduced price yesterday (10/7/2020)… *****Extremely Excited*!!!! (Vancouver, WA. zone 8b/9a)
Indoor grow with 4,200w total full spectrum LED’s w, UVB ultraviolet and infrared lights.
10×10 grow west facing room inside apartment.
Bring indoor Curry Sweet Neem and other medicinal tropical/ subtropical/ frost sensitive, select choice herbs to the outside slowly in mid spring generally, and especially; on a nice warm fair day!!! *****CAUTION and Maintenance*: Bring back inside by twilight always, until nighttime temperatures consistently go no lower than 50`F. When that happens, most of those tender herbs should be fine; although for an extra caution one should keep in high priority to make a point to always bring back inside before dark for at least the first month after the initial low 50’s nights; due to acclimatation from 60`F+ nights inside indoor grow setup.
An dehumidifier, fans, dechlorinated water, organic healthy and free draining soil medium, ventilation, decent lights, thermal mass, micro acclimatation and aromatic herbs are critical to success!!
*****Will be updating review in late winter*
Thank you Richo!! So very much! That goes for all Strictly Medicinal LLC. staff, along with all the Cech family and friends of the Earth!!!

Was there some extra seeds available for purchase due to remaining of seeds, not first anticipated to be available after seeding enough to make the quota of future seasoned plants? Now discounted prior to being the remainder of seeds; since they were unintentionally slightly extra dried or exposed to prolonged unfavorable conditions ( only slightly)? Though, I’ll bet that the germination rates are only reduced by 5% (95% total germination rate?). Perhaps, you good and honest people are simply done with this remaining seed for this wave of harvest, and; are now offering this delight of a genetic material for a reduced offer!!!

Allis as usual–trees still in good production mode–berries large–turnaround times as always–we send fresh berries and they may dry somewhat by the time the pore-ol’ post office gets them to you. Even external mold is not an issue–just squeeze out the seeds, allow to dry overnight, then plant. don’t read too much into “on sale” except that we are addicted to random acts of kindness

What happened was, we fulfilled all our pre-orders for curry leaf tree seeds, realized we had more berries on the trees, re-enabled the product online (60 more packets) this morning, and they sold out around noon. I’m sorry you didn’t get a chance to order, it is hardly fair. I’m going to re-enable 6 more packets so that you have a chance to order. It is now 1:50 PM on 9/8/20. Richo

Hello Shiva, Curry leaf tree seeds are currently in production. We enabled the first flush of orders last week and this sold out. That is why you cannot see a “buy” button. Hit the green “waitlist” button and when you get the e-mail that these are again available to purchase, our advice is to order without hesitation. Richo

Ordered 30 seeds, got 35 plants

    CurryMan (verified owner)

Awesome germination rate. I ordered 30 seeds and have 35 plants growing. Some pods had more than 1 seed. I live in Michigan and it is too cold so sprouted and intend to grow indoors. Slow growing, planted all in plastic food grade tray about 18×24″ and 5″ deep with high grade potting soil. Put tray in enclosed area (with trash bags for walls) with heater underneath to keep plants warm and light above. First plant appeared about 2 weeks. Watered when soil top looked dry. When there were about 5 plants that could be seen I dropped the entire tray on the floor, soil everywhere. I found every seed had germinated a 3-4″ single taproot with tiny short side roots before they popped above the soil. Plants looked like a single stick pointing up but each had round leaf petals under the soil so when I replanted I put the round petals above soil so the round petals helped with photosynthesis. Figured out plants benefit from deep soil so I bought plastic nursery bag containers (ebay) with drain holes in the bottom 5″ wide and 12″ tall like some videos on youtube show. If you dont see plants after 14 days it may be beneficial to pour the soil out, look for germinated seeds with long tap root, and replant with bulk of green leaf petals above ground.

It is odd, I normally see one large flush of fruiting around December and then nothing, but this year the trees just keep flowering and fruiting.

Hello Keith, Seed availability on Curry Leaf Tree is thin. The extremely short viability of the seed makes the whole process of picking, semi-drying and shipping very challenging, there is little leeway for error. I suggest ordering the curry leaf tree seedling, it is a good buy right now, delivery is in the spring. Richo

Hi. I ordered the seeds on 7/26 and very excited. It still shows processing though. When can I expect them?

      Hello Usha,
Thanks for your order and your kind patience. The curry leaf tree seeds are being shipped now through December. We have a tall stack of orders and are shipping first-come-first-served. You’ll receive an e-mail with tracking when your goods go out.
