Cleavers (Galium aparine), packet of 30 seeds, organic

$3.95

Family:  Madder (Rubiaceae)

Annual.  90 days to maturity

(Catchweed, Clivers, Goosegrass, Sticky Willy)  Creeping and clinging self-seeding ground dweller native to fields, woods and abandoned gardens of North America and Europe.  Traditonal usage (TWM): lymphatic, spring tonic. Plant prefers regular garden soil or woodland soils, shade to sun.  Sow in pots or directly in the prepared seed bed.  Seeds require dark to germinate, so best to bury 1/2 to 1 inch deep and tamp.   May take up to 60 days to germ, and germinates best in cool soils.  Give 30 days cold, moist refrigeration (place seeds in a plastic bag with moist potting soil, coir or peat) before sowing in standard greenhouse scenario for best results when using controlled planting technique.  Otherwise scatter the seed on open ground, cover and tamp–the seeds will respond when conditions are right.  Germination in the late summer and maturation before first frost is common, as is germination in the early spring and maturation  before high summer…

hi lois, thanks for writing! we don’t list zones for annuals as zones are meant to depict the overwintering potential of perennials. cleavers is a 90-day annual that grows throughout the temperate US and Europe. all the best, richo

Hi Richo! question for the master: Galium verum vs Galium aparine —
      1. which medicine is stronger and or how would you define the differences between the two?
      2. will they cross pollinate?
      thank you kindly!

hi tamar, Cleavers (Galium aparine) is good in moist gardens and shady locations–it is official and preferred for the primary activities (see Making Plant Medicine). Our Lady’s Bedstraw (Galium aparine) is loaded with coumarols and is a better plant for a dry and sunny site. It is good for stuffing mattresses. Bedbugs, fleas and other undesirables abhor it. No, they won’t cross. richo
