Question
pyroinsanity13 –
These look like great flowers for butterflies. Is it true that we shouldn’t plant northern milkweed in Mexico, because the butterflies will think they further north when they find it? And what if we plant it in Florida, or North Carolina, is that too far south?
Thanks

Hello Pyro,
Thanks for writing. I’m not worried about this and believe butterflies are smarter than that. If you’re looking for a more southern growing substitute for milkweed, try bloodflower (Asclepias curassavica).

Good idea, the bloodflower would grow good in the south. Good thing the butterflies are smart. I can plant all these flowers anywhere.

Question
Cathy B –
Which zones are all of these seeds good for? (Is there a way for you to list the zones the seed packets are good for so people don’t have to search each individual type?)
Thank you for your time and consideration with this. Otherwise I really like your site. Although it would be nice to know when I should plant them, if they need shade or sun, etc so I can plan ahead. I’m somewhat new to growing a herb garden. Thank you again!

Hi Cathy,
I’m trying to understand your comments and just need to refer you to the individual monographs for each species, which covers zone, preferred habitat, planting times, propagation biology, spacing, special hints, etc. I’m sorry, we have limited space to put all this on the collections and sets pages, it would make a small book.
