Butcher’s Broom (Ruscus aculeatus) potted plant, organic

$21.00

Family:  Lily (Liliaceae) (also ascribed to Ruscacea and Asparagaceae–keeps jumping around, the plant is the plant, and has been existential for 66 million years)

Hardy to Zones 7 to 12

Evergreen subshrub native to the Mediterranean basin, also the Canary Islands, British Isles and Caucasus.   Plant prefers part sun to shade and mesic to dry soils.  As a landscape accent, these are really excellent, and over here in the new world this plant is considered rare. In southern Europe, the extremely tough branches were made into brooms used by butchers.  Traditional usage: vascular problems including edema in the lower extremities and hemorrhoids. Plant prefers shade and fast draining, dryish soils.  Space plants 3 feet apart.

Potted bush, Certified Organically Grown
