$3.95

Family:  Aster (Asteracea)

Hardy to Zones 7 to 12

(Incienso, Brittle Bush)  Woody perennial subshrub.  Native to the arid Southwestern US, Mexico and Baja.  Clumps of grey-green leaves resemble White Sage but unlike White Sage they produce bright yellow flowers in the early spring.  The plant gives an aromatic resin that is used like Copal as a burnable.  Traditional usage (Mexican and SW American tribes): bronchitis and arthritis.  Plant prefers a southern exposure and dryish soils.  Sow in spring.  Seeds contain alot of germination inhibitors.  Plant in warm soil, in the light, and water daily until first germination flush, which occurs around day 10. After that soil may be allowed to dry between waterings. Seeds will continue to germinate sporadically, for years if given a chance.  We call this ongoing germination.  As water leaches away inhibitors and with time, the seeds germinate.  Space plants 3 feet apart.  Grows to 2 feet tall.
50 seeds/pkt., Open Pollinated, Untreated, NO GMO’s

I got these seeds on a whim and I’ve been quite pleasantly surprised. I ended up with well over 50% germination on the first flush, with many of the stragglers coming up wherever I re-use seedling soil. The plants themselves are quite handsome with their silvery leaves and they’ve taken very well to life in pots. Better still they’re essentially impossible to kill as long as you don’t overwater (they’re often the only plant left standing during the droughts that define their native habitat). All in all an unexpectedly lovely little houseplant!
