Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), packet of 30 seeds, organic

$4.95

Family:  Figwort (Scrophulariaceae)

Hardy to Zone 8 to 12

Creeping, succulent herb native to India. Traditional use:  Ayurveda, used to sharpen the mind and stimulate the memory. Does well in pots.  The plant prefers moist, fertile soil and does not require good drainage. Partial shade and humid air are helpful, but the plant will also survive in full sun at the edge of a pond or stream. It is also possible to grow brahmi indoors in an aquarium. They thrive in the greenhouse. The plant is dark green, with a thick stem and small leaves, flowering light lavender.  It took us many years of growing brahmi before we were actually able to identify and isolate the seeds, which are quite small, ovoid, netted, and glistening.  Sow seeds on surface of moist soil.  Press in gently and  keep warm, evenly moist and in the light until germination, which occurs in 10 days according to my actual tests.  The seedlings are incredibly small.  Allow seedlings to grow until large enough to individuate to pots.  If planting directly in moist beds in summer garden or greenhouse, space plants 1 foot apart. They will spread into a mat.

hello tea, thanks for wanting these. if you’re international, seeds are the only way we can get brahmi to you. otherwise if you’re in the states please avail yourself of the plants, as they are easy to grow from plants and you can increase by way of stolon cuttings. collecting brahmi seed is very tricky, but we will have it again pretty soon. richo

Right, thinning. Well, first off you’ve done very well to start these from seeds. It isn’t easy. Second, that was my experience, also, that they stayed really small for a long time. You don’t have to thin them. You can wait until they get bigger, then tease them apart and pot up singly. If you have too many Brahmi, you can give some away. Richo

Both are available as plants, which are recommended over seeds–gives you several months head start. If you are international, I can see why you would want seeds. I still have brahmi seeds in stock, a few packets at least, I’ll update this so you can order.
