(Wild Ipecac, Tropical Milkweed)  Blood flowers are uniquely colored, and in showiness they vie with just about any fancy hybrid. The entire family of Asclepiadaceae are fascinating and showy. Growing butterfly weed isn’t that hard—they are tough contenders on the landscape, surviving very harsh conditions. Plant prefers full sun and poor soils or regular garden soils, mesic.  Sow seed in spring or anytime in warm conditions.  Germination in 1 to 3 weeks at 70 degrees F.  Taprooted plants do best direct seeded in the spring garden or transplanted before the plant becomes rootbound in the pot.
