Amla (Emblica officinalis) is a small tree that is beloved by the peoples living in the foothills of the Himalayas.
Andrographis (Andrographis paniculata) is a basil-like tropical annual. Traditional use (Ayurveda): bitters.
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is well-known for its roots. Traditional use (Ayurveda): male tonic.
Eclipta (Eclipta alba) is the ayurvedic herb “bhringraj.” This pretty creeper with aster-like white flowers.
Lemongrass (Cymbopogon flexuosus) makes a great addition to soups and combines favorably with tulsi in tea blends.
Spilanthes, Official (Spilanthes oleracea) is an unusual plant that produces fisheye-like flowers. Very fun to grow, these are particularly good in hanging baskets. Source of isobutylamides. Traditional usage: antimalarial, dentifrice.
Tulsi, Amrita (Ocimum tenuiflorum). This is the green leaved and purple stemmed cultivar, a potent tea herb and a doorway to higher consciousness. This plant can be found growing near doorways and temples throughout India. The tea of dried herb is tasty.
