Of what part of this herb is the source of eugenol? Has this herb naturalized on the west coast? Looks a lot like an herb I’ve seen as a kid playing in woodlands and meadows around the great Columbia River of the Pacific northwest.. As well, what parts of the herb are used for what and how to prepare them??

hi! herbalists consider avens to be a simple astringent. the entire plant does contain eugenol and other triterpenioic compounds, and the root is the main part traditionally used, slow-dried to encourage higher eugenol content. The herb is common in the wild in the PNW, the bright yellow flowers in summer distinguish it, and the hooked seed is unmistakable (when attached to clothing, which is no worry for you, but also , attaches to the dog, which can be annoying for me. nice plant, gentle. r
