Perennial native to coastal environs of N America, flowering to 5 feet tall.  Plant prefers moist soils and part shade to sun.  Easily perennializes in aromatic patches, flowering midspring in large, domed umbels.  Aromatic roots and foliage imployed in the sweat lodge.  In historical herbal medicine, used as a febrifuge in treatment of influenza.  Intuits use as a foodstuff, medicine and flavoring.    Press these light dependent germinators into surface of soil and keep cool and moist.  A bit slow to start at first, but then fast growing.
