(Ground Ivy, Creeping Charlie) Creeping, low growing stoloniferous perennial, native to Eurasia. Plant prefers part shade and thrives in acid soil or regular garden soil.  A very common multi-purpose plant that has naturalized worldwide.  Used fresh, the plant is considered edible and nutritious in salads, and may be steamed as a potherb.  Traditional usage (TWM): eye infections colds, flu, and congestion.  In beer making, the herb was commonly employed to flavor, clarify and preserve the brew.  The widespread use of Alehoof in beer making was largely supplanted when hops gained popularity.  Sow the seed in the fall or early spring. If sowing in warm soil, a 10 day period of cold, moist refrigeration will improve germination.  Germination starts at 9 days and ongoing.  Sow seed on surface or barely cover with soil and press in hard, then keep evenly moist and in the light until germination.  This is a light dependent germinator.  Space plants 6 inches apart.  They will spread to form a carpet.
